I firmly believe many people don’t realize the power books inherit. I view it as the most affordable way to look into the minds of people who did great things.
Furthermore, purchasing a book is probably the easiest way to uplift underrepresented voices and broaden our horizons.
What image comes to your mind when you hear the word “Book Club”? For me, it’s a circle filled with bored people who are sipping on a cup of tasteless tea or cheap wine while discussing a topic no one seems to be genuinely interested in.
We need to change this narrative.
Whenever I share an epic lesson I recently learned from a book with someone, I often get the typical “Oh, I wish I had more time to read”-answer. This is why we need to bring back Book Clubs — to hold each other accountable, to step away from the screen and into an imaginary world, to dream together, to grow together, and to uplift the voices of suppressed communities together.
Let’s do this.
